Wiers Rapids

Today is Earth Day. I do my best to appreciate and care for the earth every day, always trying to keep my carbon footprint to a minimum. Of course, sometimes it's not always possible; and sometimes we forget. I suppose if we tried our best to not be careless and wasteful, not just during earth week, we can go on enjoying this good earth, and everything that she gives us.

How will you care for the earth today?

Vollmar's Park

There was a big painted sign nailed to a tree at the footbridge that said "KEEP OUT." But did we keep out? Exploring with Holly is either going to get me killed or arrested... either way, it was fascinating exploring this defunct amusement park. Vollmar's Park closed its gates in 2001. The trees and brush have overgrown many of the buildings that are still standing. This covered bridge was especially amusing, twisted and collapsing, with gates preventing passage - not that I would set foot on this structure! I took many shots in here, one more interesting than the next. Holly told me that she once attended a wedding in the big hall/ballroom/roller rink... A scary but enchanting place, forgotten and in ruins, at one time might have been a fun place to visit as a child. We made it out and back across the crumbling foot bridge safely!

Wetlands

I seem to have many photographs of ducks, geese, etc. They are just everywhere lately! They do make lovely subjects, and I can never seem to resist them :) I'm squeaking in my weekend reflection shot... quack quack
