Interurban Bridge and Rock of Beef
A nice day riding through the country with my friend Holly, we came upon this. Now abandoned and in ruins, the interurban trolley bridge was once the world's largest earth-filled concrete reinforced bridge. It spans the Maumee River in Waterville, Ohio. The bridge, built in 1907, caused some controversy when its contruction destroyed one-third of Roche de Bouef (the rock island in the foreground). The Roche de Bouef was once a location where local native Americans held council. It was so called Roche de Bouef because its shape resembled a buffalo in the river (Buffalo Rock). It's also commonly known as Roche de Bout (the end rock of the river).
I told Holly that she was a plethora of historical information. :) And then she made me eat ice cream....

Hee hee - I know that rock! I don't think you can be from around these parts and not know of Roche de Bouef!
